Friends of Education Schools are Closing the Achievement Gap in Reading
Nine charter schools authorized by Friends of Education are closing the achievement gap in reading based on the 2011 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) results.
The following nine schools’ students qualifying for free or reduced price lunch (the blue bars on the graph) outperform Minnesota’s students qualifying for free or reduced price lunch (red line on the graph), and in some cases, surpass all Minnesota students (green line on the graph).
The schools include:
- Cologne Academy
- DaVinci Academy
- Eagle Ridge Academy
- Minneapolis Academy
- Nova Classical Academy
- Seven Hills Classical Academy
- St. Croix Preparatory Academy
- Stride Academy
- Yinghua Academy
Of special note are Eagle Ridge Academy, Nova Classical Academy, Seven Hills Classical Academy, St. Croix Preparatory Academy, and Yinghua Academy, which students qualifying for free or reduced price lunch are outperforming ALL Minnesota students, without regard to economic status. Elizabeth Hanson, Education Programs Specialist at Friends of Education, commented, "These schools are clearly providing an outstanding education to all students. Friends of Education is extremely proud of their success in closing the achievement gap."
Friends of Education schools Aspen Academy and Parnassus Preparatory School are not shown; Aspen Academy had too few students to report, and Parnassus Preparatory School opened in August 2011.
