MESPA (Minnesota Elementary School Principals' Association) developed this research-based program aligned with national standards in: leadership, vision, student learning, the culture of adult learning, data and decision-making, and community engagement. Aspen Academy was recognized in the following three primary areas.
Rising Standards Through Instruction and Collaboration: content and instruction that ensures student achievement, following state standards, using board-approved curriculum, and data-driven decision making.
Real-World and Enrichment Experiences: community partners (Dem-Con Recycling, CLIMB Theater, KARE 11 Weather, Starbase Minnesota, etc.), enrichment programs (Math Olympiads, WordMasters, Scripps Spelling Bee, Battle of the Books), visual arts, and music opportunities.
Celebrating Traditions and Building Community: consistent grade level opportunities, field trips, and consistent annual events.
"Aspen Academy blends rigorous academics with real-world experiences," said Michelle Krell, MESPA's executive director. "Their partnerships, enrichment opportunities, and community connections ensure students thrive both inside and outside the classroom."
